At The Cut, we are proud to specialise in creating bespoke jewellery pieces that perfectly match the vision and lifestyle of each client. Recently, we had the opportunity to craft a stunning 8.5 carat radiant cut diamond ring. While we always strive to create jewellery that exceeds expectations, this particular piece highlighted just how important it is to consider both the aesthetic and practicality of a design.
Our client came to us with a clear vision: she had fallen in love with an 8.5 carat radiant cut diamond and envisioned it with trapezoid diamonds on either side. It was a bold and beautiful concept, and we were thrilled to bring it to life. However, when the ring was complete and in her hands, our client felt that the design was just too large for her. In this case, the bigger-is-better approach didn't quite fit—proving that size isn't always everything when it comes to diamonds.
There’s no denying that larger diamonds are having a moment, especially with the
increasing accessibility of lab-grown diamonds. Advances in technology have made it
easier to acquire bigger stones at more attainable prices, and we’re seeing more clients opt for larger centre diamonds. However, size isn’t always the only factor to consider, especially when it comes to your everyday lifestyle and comfort.
In this instance, while the 8.5 carat diamond was breathtaking, it simply didn’t suit the client’s finger size and lifestyle. It was clear that the setting, though stunning, felt too overpowering on her hand.
At The Cut, we’re committed to not only meeting, but exceeding, our clients’
expectations. We believe that a piece of jewellery should fit seamlessly into your life.
So, we worked with our client to reimagine the design. The solution? A stunning split
shank setting.
A split shank design helps to create a more balanced and elegant look while allowing
the diamond to sit lower on the finger. This is particularly important with larger stones, as it can prevent the ring from looking too bulky or top-heavy. By removing the trapezoids and placing the radiant cut diamond in the split shank setting, we were able to create a beautiful, refined piece that no longer felt overpowering. The result was a lower-profile ring that still showcased the immense beauty of the diamond without overwhelming the finger.
Of course, no design process is perfect on the first try. At The Cut, we understand that creating your “forever piece” is a journey, and we’re here to make sure you’re completely happy with the end result. In this case, we were able to work with our client to find the perfect solution, but we always acknowledge that there may be moments when adjustments are needed. If a piece doesn’t meet our client’s expectations, we will work tirelessly until it’s exactly what they want. This is part of what makes our service unique—we believe in continuous collaboration to ensure your satisfaction.
